Berkman International and the DOT Amazed to Marabut

USec Pantig, congratulated Mayor Ortillo, Jr. for the passage of its Municipal Tourism Code and the Sangguniang Bayan's adoption of its First Marabut Tourism Master Plan which according to her are vital in the implementation of its tourism program in the municipality.
The former USec disclosed that Marabut is very much ahead among all LGUs in terms of tourism development in the entire island of Samar and perhaps in the entire Eastern Visayas region.
The Department of Tourism commissioned the Berkman International to prepare the Samar Island Tourism Master Development Plan in cooperation with the three provincial government of Samar, namely, the Province of Samar, the Province of Eastern Samar and the Province of Northern Samar.
Sangguniang Bayan Member and Municipal Tourism Council Chairman, Rogelio "Jun" Grefiel, Jr. emphasized to the members of the team that the municipality of the Marabut has already enacted its Environmental Code and undergoing its implementation in support to its tourism program.
After a short meeting with the Mayor at the floating cottage in Brgy. Tinabanan, the team composed of Dr. Vicky Apoan, Professor Reil Cruz, Architect Aaron Lecciones and Agatha Gatbonton toured around Marabut to conduct the site validation. Ms. Rina Apostol, Brett De los Santos and Trina Dacuycuy of DOT Eastern Visayas, and Roche De los Reyes of DOT Manila accompanied the team.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office 8 - Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Service (DENR RO8-PAWCZMS) in coordination with the Municipal Tourism Operation's Office of Marabut conducted its assessment and documentation of the Sogod Cave inside the Caluwayan Palm Island Resort where its zipline project will be constructed.

Engr. Mario Pacuri, technical consultant of the resort disclosed that the
Meadowland Developers Inc. of Cebu City is scheduled to start its groundwork last week of March 2011.
Regional Executive Director Primitivo C. Galinato and RTD Director Danilo A. Javier of the DENR RO8 - PAWCZMS sent Jobel Gravoso, Arnie Viojan, Vilma Fabillo, Mars Macanda, Ed Corbilla and Edwin Gad last March 16,2011 to the area to facilitate the assessment and documentation works.
